ASTAMENTIN is a broad spectrum antibiotics formulation of Ampicillin and penicillinase stable Cloxacillin.
Astamentin exhibits bacterial activity against a wide range of gram-positive organism such as Staphylococci (including penicillinase producing strains). Streptococci,Pneumoniae,Clostridia, B.anthrax and most strain of Enterococcus and gram-negative organism such as H.Influenza, Brucella melitenis, Brucella abortus,Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella, E.coil and Neisseria species
Respiratory tract infections, Ear, Nose and Throat infections, Urinary Tract infections, Gastro-intestinal infections, Skin and soft tissue infections. Pelvic infections. Septicaemia. Endocarditis. Orthopaedic infections
ADULTS: 1 capsule every 8 hours or as directed by the physician.
The capsule should be stored below 30°C.
Reduced dosage is required in patients with impaired renal function e.g renal failure, neonates and premature infants.
As with other penicillin, side effects are usually of mild transitory nature, they may include diarrhea, indigestion, occasional rashes, or urticarias which suggest penicillin hypersensitivity. In severe cases, it is advisable to discontinue therapy.
